Three Strange Myths People Believe About Locksmiths

Locksmiths are people you don’t spend much time thinking about until you need them.  Most people wait until there’s an emergency to find information about locksmiths in the Philadelphia area, and some try to disastrously try to break into their locked home or car because they simply don’t know who to call.  Even though the profession is important and overlooked, some people believe some pretty strange things about locksmiths.  There is a lot of misinformation about locksmiths and their work, and those myths can make things difficult during a lockout.  If you hear your friends say any of the following things about locksmiths, feel free to correct them.

All locksmiths have to be available 24 hours a day

You just got locked out of your home, but you aren’t in too big of a hurry to get inside.  You have a few errands to run, plus you figure that you can call them at any time without a problem.  North Philadelphia Locksmith may be available 24 hours a day, but a lot of locksmiths aren’t.  Most have set hours, and a few are willing to charge outrageous fees for their “off hours” work.

In order to be a locksmith, you have to be licensed and approved by the state

This myth can cause a lot of heartache and problems for people that believe it.  Since some people falsely believe that they can use any cheap locksmith service because they think that the ones they see have gone through some kind of state approval process.  The state of Pennsylvania doesn’t have a licensing law for locksmiths, so really anybody can open a business and claim to be a locksmith.  This is why choosing a locksmith with a proven professional record and qualifications is so important.  If you simply go with the first one you find, you could end up with someone that doesn’t know what they’re doing, or could even be a criminal.

Locksmiths will drill off your locks to avoid having to do work/charge you for a new lock

Sometimes you can find a lock that’s so old, rusted, or damaged that traditional locksmith tools won’t be able to do anything.  If this is the case, your locksmith may have to drill off your old locks and replace them with something new.  Ideally, this should be a last case scenario that locksmiths would only resort to if they’re completely out of options.  Some people falsely believe that locksmiths do this to get more money, but reputable residential, automotive, or commercial locksmith in Philadelphia would only drill off locks as a last resort.
