It looks like 2015 is going to be a good year for the city of Philadelphia. We've had a steady stream of people moving to the city for the past few years now. And thanks to being featured in the New York Times' list for best places to visit in 2015, interest in moving to the city is only expected to increase as time goes on.

If you haven't lived in a city before, moving and adapting can be a little stressful. Urban areas aren't going to have the atmosphere of a smaller suburban or rural area, especially not an old and heavily-populated city like Philadelphia. Getting used to the city can take a little time, but there are a few things that can make the transitional period easier. If you're planning on moving to Philadelphia, or any city for that matter, make sure that you have these things:

A copy of the public transit schedule

The vast majority of people that move to the city are used to driving cars. And while it is possible to drive and own cars and live in a city, some people find that public transportation is easier and more convenient for some activities. Figuring out the current bus and train schedules can seem a little intimidating to a new city resident, they are very easy to keep track of. Most cities have transit apps for smartphones so that you can get up-to-date alerts on any delays and schedule changes.

A spare key for their new place

You never know when you'll lose a key, and moves are the perfect time for small objects like keys to get temporarily misplaced or lost completely. There's nothing more annoying than losing a house key when you're moving things, or being in a new city without your keys. You never know if you, your roommate, or someone in your family will misplace their keys, and having a spare on hand will come in handy. While we're on the topic of a spare key, we should mention the importance of having . . .

The number of a locksmith

You go to unlock your car during a brutally cold morning, and your lock is completely frozen shut. Your shove your key into the front door lock a little too forcefully, and now you find that half of your key is in your hand and that the other half is in the lock. Either way, lock accidents happen, and you'll need some help during an emergency. The good thing about city life is that you can easily find a qualified 24-hour locksmith in Philadelphia, so you won't have to go without access to your car or home.
